FAQs

Why is ski servicing important?

Ski servicing ensures your skis perform at their best on the slopes by maintaining proper edge grip, glide, and control. Regular servicing also prolongs the lifespan of your equipment, meaning you won't have to replace them so often. Servicing also helps preserve the resale value of your equipment.

How long do skis last?

Regular checks and maintenance should see your skis lasting for 10 years or more! (My own skis are well loved and are seeing what must be their 12th season this year!)

How often should I get my skis serviced?

The frequency of ski servicing depends on factors like how often you ski, the conditions you ski in, and your skill level. As a general guideline, for the regular skier we recommend ski servicing every 6 days of skiing. For a performance skier or racer it'll be a daily requirement to maintain performance and grip. If you're using your skis on a indoor artificial snow slope you'll need a service, especially a wax, after only 2 hours of use!

Can you repair damaged skis?

Yes, we can assess and repair minor damage to your skis, including major base repairs and edge fixes. We'll ensure your skis are safe and ready to hit the slopes.

How long does ski servicing take?

The turnaround time depends on our current workload, but we strive to complete most servicing within a week. We'll provide you with an estimated timeline when you drop off your skis.

^We also offer an Ultra Service, you can book and pop your equipment over to us, and we can turn your equipment around in around 1 hour! This Whilst-you-wait service allows you to start your holiday early! Drop off, nip off for a coffee, lunch or explore the local area come back and your kit will be ready to go!

^(Ultra Service; 1 hour - 24 hours; strictly subject to surcharge, availability, pre-booking & pre inspection with only minor base repairs covered by our standard service).

^(Rapid Service; 2 Days - 6 Days; subject to pre-booking & availability, surcharge).

Is Ski waxing necessary?

Yes, Ski waxing is crucial for maintaining proper glide and performance. It also protects the base from moisture and abrasion. We offer waxing as part of our servicing packages. We use a high quality all Snow all season Wax (don't worry I've tested the product in a variety of snow types, air temperatures, in all the conditions a mountain can throw at you, and I can definitely endorse the product).

How are we as a business, doing our best for the environment?

It's important to me to preserve the enjoyment of skiing for future generations. I do this in the workshop and for the service of your equipment in various ways.

Reduce the use of "forever chemicals" as much as possible. In line with Snowsport England, the FIS and SIGB's environmental statements to reduce our footprint on nature. For the everyday ski servicing I use an all season, all temperature fluoro-free ski wax. The added benefit; you can use it for back-country skiing using skins.

For customers heading to colder climates, i.e. Japan or Canada we can talk about applying a harder Eco-Fluoro Wax suitable for extreme cold. This is a new product to market, with adapted molecular chain to eliminate the forever chemical properties.

This wax is also great when heading to the indoor slopes as it provides a harder longer lasting coating on the ski base. The higher cost of this wax adds a surcharge (+£5) to your ski service, this is why I don't recommend it for European weather and snow temperatures.

What else are we doing for the environment?

In the workshop and the front of house areas we use reduced energy smart equipment. This high efficiency LED lighting powered by a supplier only providing Green-Energy from sustainable renewable sources.

My workshop is heated by a highly efficient multifuel heater which burns so clean there is next to no emissions. I also use a secondary system using the exhaust radiant heat to provide a boost to the heated-air system. I highly recommend the use of radiant heat systems for heating your home or business space, its highly efficient compared to traditional gas central heating.

How do I know when my skis need servicing?

Signs that your skis need servicing include reduced glide, decreased control, side slip or skidding, catching or visible damage. If you're unsure, our experts can assess your skis and recommend the appropriate service. If you feel like you're slowing on the steadier slopes or can't get grip when turning in icy conditions its definitely time for a tune-up.

How do I book a ski servicing appointment?

Booking an appointment is easy. You can do it via WhatsApp or Call, just add us to your phone contacts and send us a message. We'll schedule a convenient time for you to drop off your skis. See our contact page (here).

I'm skiing indoors, how can I preserve my skis?

Firstly, we'd advise not using your skis on dry-slope or in indoor snow-slopes. You'll understand when you see the skis rented out in the indoor facilities.

The crystalline structure of the snow is very harsh and abrasive. A session indoors is like skiing a week in The Alps!

But if you must venture indoors to Snozone, we can apply a very hard Eco-Fluoro wax to protect your bases. As soon as you're done at your session wipe the equipment clean with a mild detergent cloth to remove the dirt that builds up in the artificial snow.

What is DIN Setting?

Deutsches Institut für Normung (translated as German Institute for Standardisation), known as  DIN.

In terms of the Skier & Technician relationship DIN is the little number gauge you can see on most Ski's Toe and Heel.

This is the calculated torque release value set for your skis using your ski boot length in millimetres (mm), age, height, weight & ability level.

Check out our DIN Calculator Page here: DIN Calculator to assist you in checking your skis are setup correctly for your measurements and ability.

NOTE: Its very important to calculate this number correctly to avoid serious injury. If you are unsure of the calculations and current industry standards please consult our team, or a suitably experienced & qualified technician.
